Purepecha, or P'urhé, is one of the indigenous languages spoken in the state of Michoacán, Mexico. Its origin is a mystery, since it has no direct relationship with the other indigenous languages spoken in Mexican territory. The first studies carried out on the Purepecha language were done by the Franciscan friars, who created the first vocabularies, using the Latin alphabet of the XVI century as a base. Throughout the different eras different dictionaries have been made, most of them have been made by non-Purepecha speakers. As a Purepecha speaker, I see the need to document this dictionary for two reasons: first, to preserve our language and second, so that more people can communicate through this beautiful language.
