The Miúkua or Purepecha Calendar has never been documented, due to the generalized idea that the pre-Hispanic cultures of Mesoamerica shared the same calendar. The Mexica calendar has been used as the basis for the study of the different pre-Hispanic calendars; many even affirm that the Purepecha culture also used the Mexica calendar, which contradicts the oral tradition since, within it, there is never a correlation between both calendars. This paper will review whether the Purepecha used the Mexica calendar, and will also document the meaning of time from the Purepecha perspective and the way in which they followed the different cycles in the course of the year. All this using the ancestral Purepecha wisdom, which was shared through oral tradition and has never been documented in official studies.
